, NortOne of the essential parts of my life that surprises me the most is the amount of non-fiction I consume. I grew up devouring sci-fi books. The older I get the more I have a thirst for other fare. In particular, I have found that positive psychology, self-development/business development books, and books about technology advances that are positively impacting the world are all essential to my mental and physical well-being. (As soon as I take a week break from reading the good stuff I get down mentally and feel physically ill as well occasionally.)
I have lost count of the number of times something I have read recently applies to a conversation I am having. Being able to offer an idea or encouragement to someone is a boost for me too. Since starting this new reading habit I have started a new business, been asked to serve on two different boards for homeschool communities and more. I absolutely credit my reading with keeping me excited about the world, motivated to help make it better, and informing me on ways to make some of those changes.
